NADRA has introduced a new service called “NADRA Ijazat Aap Ki” to safeguard the privacy of citizens’ data.
This revolutionary initiative empowers residents to control access to their sensitive information by giving consent before verification of their CNIC. NADRA’s commitment to ensuring data security is reflected in the introduction of a multi-layered control mechanism, which replaces traditional security protocols with a digital consent regime.
Tariq Malik, NADRA Chairman, stated that this digital mechanism aligns with his vision of protecting the privacy of people and strengthening data security. He emphasized that the inhabitants own their data and have the right to protect it from misuse or unauthorized access. Furthermore, he added that NADRA aims to empower the community by using data to their advantage rather than against them.
Starting yesterday, all verification transactions will require a 6-digit passcode sent to the citizen’s registered mobile number for consent to proceed with data sharing. This PIN will operate as the person’s consent to obtain his/her ID number verification from NADRA.

NADRA compiles mobile numbers at the time of ID card registration and has launched an SMS service enabling citizens to enroll their mobile numbers. To enroll, citizens can send a text message with their 13-digit ID card number on the shortcode. NADRA will then send a confirmation message to notify successful enrollment.
In addition, Malik stressed the importance of being vigilant in safeguarding personal information and advised people to take all necessary measures to prevent identity theft and fraud.
Why data protection laws are important for any country?
Data protection laws are crucial for any country in today’s digital age. With the increasing reliance on technology and the internet, the amount of personal data being collected and processed by organizations is also increasing. Data protection laws provide a legal framework for the protection of an individual’s personal data, ensuring that it is used fairly, lawfully, and transparently. These laws also give individuals control over their personal data, allowing them to access, correct, and delete it. The implementation of data protection laws helps to prevent the misuse of personal data and promotes the responsible handling of information. Additionally, data protection laws contribute to maintaining the trust of citizens in the digital economy, which is essential for the growth and development of any country.
