Aiysha Siddiqa, a climate, and human rights defender from Pakistan has been named one of Time magazine’s Women of the Year for 2023. She is joined by women from several other countries, who have excelled in different fields such as politics, human rights, and arts. Ayisha Siddiqa the Pakistani climate defender posted this achievement on her Twitter profile, see below what she is saying about this accomplishment.
Growing up in a tribal community in Northern Pakistan, Siddiqa became an advocate for climate change and human rights after experiencing the effects of environmental degradation first-hand. She realized at the age of 14 that the environment around her was not safe, and she has been working as a climate sustainability worker and activist ever since.
As a potent voice in climate change activism, Siddiqa has been highlighting the impact of climate change on the least-income countries that are bearing the major brunt of the crisis. She has been working tirelessly for 24 years to bring attention to this issue and co-founded an international climate youth coalition named “Polluters out” in 2020.

Pakistani climate defender Ayisha Siddiqa believes that the climate crisis is linked to women and girls, as the same structures that are abusing, hurting, and taking without consent are also responsible for the effects of climate change. She notes that in South Asia, climate change disproportionately affects women, and during flooding in Pakistan last year, many pregnant women lost their lives due to a lack of resources.

The activist emphasizes that people living under unstable governments cannot eliminate climate pollution because unstable states do not function properly. She believes that we need to think more dynamically about solutions to the climate crisis, taking into account legal, economic, and technical factors.
Pakistani climate defender Ayisha Siddiqa’s advocacy is fueled by personal tragedy. She lost one family member after another over 10 years due to polluted water, and she has seen firsthand the human rights violations that are linked to climate defenders and people trying to ask for clean air and water.

Pakistani climate defender Ayisha Siddiqa’s recognition as a Woman of the Year by Time magazine is a testament to her dedication and hard work in advocating for climate change and human rights. As she noted, “We are in this together. We need to think of this crisis as a collective global crisis. We cannot be individualistic anymore. It will not work.”
Why controls on climate change are necessary for a country and its people?
Climate change is a global phenomenon that has widespread impacts on the planet, and controls on climate change are necessary for the well-being of a country and its people. The effects of climate change include extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and increased frequency of natural disasters, which can have devastating impacts on human populations.

Implementing controls on climate change can help to reduce these impacts and mitigate the effects of global warming. These controls may include policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy sources, and increase energy efficiency. By taking action to control climate change, a country can protect its citizens from the negative consequences of climate change and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
