Pakistan's Rice Exports to China

Pakistan’s rice exports to China saw a significant increase in 2022. Exceeding USD 455 million with a volume of more than one million tonnes, marking the first time that the China-Pakistan rice trade had surpassed the one million tonne mark. Said Ghulam Qadir, the Commercial Counsellor at Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing. Bilateral trade in agriculture products increased significantly, with China importing over 1.19 million tonnes of different types of rice from Pakistan, a year-on-year increase of 53%, according to the General Administration of Customs of China.

Qadir attributed the growth in exports to the hard work of businessmen and the facilitation from both governments. He believes that the opening up of China will further boost these exports. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, in 2022, China’s imports of semi or wholly-milled rice from Pakistan reached USD 211.88 million, while two types of broken rice reached USD 162.78 million and USD 80.74 million, respectively.

Qadir also mentioned that the Chinese government is supporting Pakistan by establishing offline and online pavilions and Pakistani rice has hit the e-commerce platform in China, with further sales growth expected. The number of Pakistani enterprises registered with GACC has also increased, with 62 enterprises currently registered.
