Umrah in Ramadan carries the reward of Hajj with the Prophet (peace be upon him), according to the famous hadith, and Pakistan feels that pull more strongly than almost anywhere. This guide to Ramadan Umrah from Pakistan covers what the trip costs, what the crowds are really like, and the deadline most people miss. Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around mid-February 2027; the exact date depends on the sighting of the moon.

The costs, with every figure labelled

Ramadan is the most expensive Umrah season of the year, and the shape of the month matters. Based on the market ranges rechecked for our main packages guide in November 2026, a package for the first 20 nights of Ramadan sits at an estimated PKR 400,000 to 600,000 per person, while the last 10 nights, when the whole world converges on Makkah for Laylat al-Qadr, run an estimated PKR 600,000 to 800,000 or more (all figures estimated, checked November 2026). Five-star rooms near the Haram in the last ten nights leave those ranges behind entirely. The levers are the same as any season, hotel distance, sharing and flights, but every lever is pulled to its limit in Ramadan. Treat any “Ramadan deal” far below these bands as the warning sign our scam guide teaches you to recognise, and confirm live prices with named operators before you pay a deposit.

The deadline hidden inside the calendar

Here is the fact that catches families out. The Saudi Ministry’s 1448 AH season calendar sets the final Umrah visa issuance date as 9 March 2027, with final entry on 23 March 2027 and departure for all pilgrims by 7 April 2027. Ramadan is expected to start in mid-February 2027, which means the visa window closes partway through the holy month itself. If your heart is set on the last ten nights, your visa must be issued before that 9 March deadline, which in practice means your booking, hotel confirmation and paperwork must be with an operator weeks earlier. There is no queue-jumping and no exception; when issuance closes, it closes. This single date is why experienced Ramadan pilgrims book in autumn, not in the new year.

The crowds, honestly described

Makkah in the last ten nights of Ramadan holds one of the largest gatherings of human beings on earth. The mataf moves at a shuffle, the courtyards fill hours before Maghrib, and a hotel 800 metres away can feel like another city at Taraweeh time. The first twenty nights are busy but gentler, and many pilgrims of experience quietly prefer them: the mosques are full and alive, yet you can still reach the front rows, find space for iftar on the courtyard, and perform Umrah at night without being carried by the crowd. Madinah carries its own Ramadan glory, and some pilgrims split the month, spending the first part in Madinah’s relative calm and the last ten nights in Makkah, or the reverse. There is no wrong answer; there is only the answer your body, budget and family can sustain for a month of nights spent standing in prayer.

If you can only manage part of Ramadan

Not everyone can take a month. A single week inside Ramadan still carries the month’s reward and its atmosphere, and the smart money books either the opening week, when crowds are at their Ramadan lightest and prices at their Ramadan lowest, or accepts the cost of the final week knowingly. School holidays rarely align kindly with the Islamic calendar, so families should check both calendars together for the next several years; Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year, and a window that clashes with examinations this cycle may sit perfectly inside a winter break within a few years.

When to book, and how to survive the month well

Book as early as you can: operators open Ramadan files months ahead, the near-Haram hotels go first, and the visa deadline above turns late decisions into impossible ones. Once there, live on the mosque’s rhythm: sleep after Taraweeh and again after Fajr, eat your main meal at iftar inside or beside the Haram (the iftar spreads laid out in the courtyards are a Ramadan institution in themselves), and keep suhoor simple and close to the hotel. Plan your Umrah rites for a night early in your stay, before the deepest crowds build, and pace elderly parents and children with even more care than usual, using the wheelchair and pacing advice in our elderly parents guide. Above all, leave margin in every plan; Ramadan rewards the pilgrim who arrives at each prayer early and unhurried.
