Pakistan International Airlines has signed a landmark agreement with Norway’s Norse Atlantic Airways for two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner deal marks the first time the Dreamliner will fly for a Pakistani carrier. Announced on 9 October 2026, the wet-lease arrangement will put the modern widebodies on UK-Pakistan routes from the start of November 2026, giving PIA a long-awaited capacity boost on one of its most important international corridors.

What the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner Deal Covers

Under the agreement, Norse Atlantic will provide the two 787-9 aircraft together with crew, maintenance and insurance, the full package known in the industry as ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance). PIA will operate the aircraft on its own commercial network, connecting multiple destinations in Pakistan and the United Kingdom. Flight operations are expected to commence from the start of November 2026.

The PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner deal gives PIA additional widebody capacity without the cost and delay of sourcing and inducting aircraft into its own fleet. Neither airline has disclosed the financial terms, the duration of the contract, or the specific routes and schedules, but both sides describe the partnership as the beginning of PIA’s wider fleet expansion. For passengers, the near-term promise is simple: more seats and more choice on direct Pakistan-UK flights, as The News reported.

First Dreamliners for the Pakistani Market

PIA chief executive Amir Hayat called the agreement a milestone, noting that these are the first Boeing 787 Dreamliners to be adopted by the Pakistani market.

“This is the first set of (Boeing 787) Dreamliners that is being adopted by the Pakistani market, and we hope they will provide a dream journey to our valued guests who expect premium services from their national carrier,” Hayat said.

He added that the UK is an important market for the airline and that the agreement will allow it to expand much-needed capacity and offer passengers greater choice and connectivity on these routes. The 787-9 is known for fuel efficiency and passenger comfort on long-haul sectors, including lower cabin altitude and larger windows, features that fit PIA’s pitch of premium service on its flagship UK routes.

Why the UK-Pakistan Route Matters

The UK hosts one of the largest Pakistani diasporas in the world, and demand for direct flights between the two countries has consistently outstripped supply. More capacity on the corridor means easier travel for families, students and business travellers, and stronger competition that tends to push fares and service standards in the right direction.

  • Operations begin: start of November 2026, on PIA’s commercial network between Pakistan and the UK.
  • Aircraft: two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, supplied with Norse Atlantic crew under ACMI.
  • First for Pakistan: no Pakistani airline has operated the 787 Dreamliner before.

Aviation remains one of the country’s most visible growth stories this year, from new direct UAE flights to Skardu to Ethiopian Airlines beginning operations from Karachi and direct Pakistan-Kazakhstan flights. The Dreamliner agreement extends that momentum to the long-haul market.

What the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner Deal Means for Norse Atlantic

For Norse Atlantic, the agreement helps secure a key ACMI contract at an important moment. India’s IndiGo ended its wet-lease arrangement with the Norwegian group in July 2026, and Norse has since been shifting away from low-cost transatlantic flying toward ACMI deals, which provide steadier revenue. The Oslo-based carrier operates a fleet of 12 Boeing 787-9s.

Norse Atlantic chief executive Eivind Roald said the agreement would give the large Pakistani community in the UK more travel options and described it as the start of a strategic partnership between the two airlines. In its official announcement, carried by Cision, Norse said it is in active discussions with other international airlines about further ACMI agreements. Industry coverage at Aviator.aero notes the deal restores revenue momentum for the carrier after a difficult stretch.

What Happens Next

With the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner deal moving toward operations within weeks, the immediate focus turns to schedules and fares. PIA has not yet published which UK cities the Dreamliners will serve first or how the aircraft will be configured, details passengers will watch closely. If the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner deal delivers the promised capacity and comfort, it could become the template for further widebody additions as the airline rebuilds its long-haul network.

For now, the PIA Boeing 787 Dreamliner deal stands as a small but visible marker of the national carrier’s ambitions: modern aircraft, direct connections, and a better journey for the millions who fly between Pakistan and Britain every year.
