Umrah can be performed almost all year, but the month you choose changes the price, the weather on your skin and the number of people sharing the mataf with you. This guide finds the best time to go for Umrah from Pakistan by weighing all three, season by season, so you can match the calendar to your budget and your body.

The cheapest months: Muharram, Safar and the post-Ramadan lull
The lowest prices of the year usually come in Muharram and Safar, the first two Islamic months, which fall in early summer in this cycle (the 1448 AH season opened on 31 May 2026). The Haram is at its quietest, hotels discount hard, and airlines compete for the few passengers travelling. The trade-off is heat: Makkah in June and July regularly exceeds 40 degrees, so your worship shifts to the nights and the air-conditioned hours. The second cheap window opens right after Ramadan, in Shawwal and Dhul Qadah, once the Ramadan crowds have gone home and before the Hajj closure empties the calendar. Pilgrims who can handle the heat, or who plan their days around it, save the most in these windows; our packages guide’s estimated tables are built on exactly these off-peak months.
The mildest weather: late autumn and winter
If comfort matters more than cost, the gentle season runs roughly from November to February, when Makkah’s days sit in the high twenties and Madinah’s evenings can be genuinely cool. This is the season elderly pilgrims and families with small children often choose, and the market knows it: December and January are peak pricing months, helped along by school holidays in Pakistan and winter breaks worldwide. Book this window early, because the best-located hotels sell out first, and expect the courtyards to be busy even though the heat is kind.
The fullest months: Ramadan and Rabi al-Awwal
Ramadan is the spiritual summit of the Umrah year and its price peak: the whole month is busy, and the last ten nights, when pilgrims seek Laylat al-Qadr, draw crowds comparable to a small Hajj. Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around mid-February 2027, subject to the sighting of the moon. Rabi al-Awwal also swells, especially around its middle days, as many pilgrims time their Madinah stay for it. Neither month is a mistake; both are magnificent. They are simply the wrong choice if a quiet mosque floor or a low price is what you need, and both demand booking months ahead. Note also the season’s hard edge: for 1448 AH the last Umrah visas are issued on 9 March 2027 and every pilgrim must leave by 7 April 2027, after which Umrah pauses for Hajj.
Crowds, hour by hour
Within any month, timing still matters. The mataf is calmest between mid-morning and mid-afternoon prayers outside Ramadan, and again in the deep night; it is fullest between Maghrib and Isha and on Friday around Jumu’ah. In Madinah, the Rawdah permit system spreads demand, but the Prophet’s Mosque courtyards fill at the same prayer peaks. Elderly pilgrims often find the hours after Fajr, when the air is cool and the night crowds have thinned, the sweetest of the day in both cities.
A note for families tied to school holidays
Many Pakistani families can only travel when schools close, which pushes them into the expensive windows almost by force: late December, the spring break and the summer holidays, which in this cycle land in the hot, cheap months. If summer is your only option, take the discount the season offers and manage the heat honestly: choose a hotel close to the Haram so midday rests are easy, perform tawaf and sa’i at night, and give children and grandparents the shaded, air-conditioned hours for sleep. A well-managed hot trip beats a mild one you cannot afford.
So, when should you go?
On a tight budget with a strong back: Muharram or Safar, worshipping at night. With elderly parents or young children: November to February, booked early and priced honestly. For the once-in-a-lifetime spiritual peak: Ramadan, booked months in advance with eyes open about cost and crowds. And for a balance of all three, the weeks of Shawwal after Ramadan offer kind prices, dropping temperatures in this cycle and a Haram still glowing from the holy month. The best time to go for Umrah is the time that fits your life; the calendar above simply tells you what each choice will feel like.
