The Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol team has won a Silver Medal at Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2026 in Wales, finishing ahead of most of the 140 teams from 36 countries that entered one of the toughest military patrolling competitions in the world. The result extends Pakistan’s medal streak at the event to five consecutive years.

The eight-member team, drawn from 59 Punjab Regiment, consisted of one officer and seven soldiers. It competed in Wales from 2 to 13 October 2026, and was later hosted in London by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the United Kingdom, Tipu Usman, who congratulated the soldiers on their achievement.

What the Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol Team Achieved

Exercise Cambrian Patrol is the British Army’s premier patrolling event, hosted by Headquarters 160th (Welsh) Brigade. Patrols are assessed from the moment they are dropped off until they complete the course, across a long list of military skills. A Silver Medal is awarded to patrols scoring 65 to 74 percent of the available points, with no less than 55 percent on any single assessed task. Gold requires 75 percent or more.

The key facts of this year’s result:

  • 140 teams from 36 countries took part in the 2026 exercise.
  • Pakistan’s team came from 59 Punjab Regiment: one officer and seven soldiers.
  • The exercise ran in Wales from 2 to 13 October 2026.
  • Silver requires 65 to 74 percent overall, with at least 55 percent on every assessed task.
  • The team was hosted and congratulated by High Commissioner Tipu Usman in London.

For the Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol team, silver meant clearing a demanding bar on every single task, not just on average. A weak performance in any one area would have cost the medal, which makes the consistency of the result as impressive as the placing itself.

What Makes Cambrian Patrol So Demanding

The exercise is designed to test soldiers on the full range of patrolling skills, not specialist abilities. According to the British Army, the assessed tasks include artillery target and emergency close air support procedures, battlefield casualty drills, countering the explosive ordnance threat, counter-chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear drills, dismounted close combat, leadership, media handling and civil engagement, observation and reconnaissance, obstacle crossing, operational law and ethical behaviour, orders procedure, patrol reporting and radio communications, physical and mental robustness, recognition of aircraft, vehicles, weapons and equipment, and tactical conduct, navigation and fieldcraft.

The aim of the exercise is to provide a challenging World Class patrol exercise in order to enhance Operational Capability. – British Army, Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2026

Many teams that enter the event do not finish at all. Those that do earn one of four distinctions: gold, silver, bronze, or a completion coin. In that context, a silver medal places a patrol among the strongest performers in an international field. The Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol preparation covers every one of these areas, which is why the team held its standard across the whole course.

Five Years of Medals

The 2026 silver continues a remarkable run for Pakistan at the event. Pakistan’s teams won Silver in 2022 and 2023, followed by Gold in 2024 and 2025. With this year’s Silver, Pakistan has now medalled in five consecutive years. The official results sheets record the recent history: 19 Punjab Regiment took Silver in 2022, 67 Punjab Regiment took Silver in 2023, and 21 Punjab Regiment took Gold in 2025.

The Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol record is a sign of depth, not a one-off. Different regiments have carried the flag in different years, which points to consistent standards across the Army’s training rather than the form of a single unit. Each year, a new group of soldiers has travelled to Wales and measured itself against the best patrols in the world, and each year it has come home with a medal.

The achievement sits alongside a strong period for Pakistani sport more broadly. Pakistan’s cricketers recently completed a record T20I series win over Sri Lanka, the country won esports bronze at the Asian Games, and the national football team climbed in the FIFA rankings. The Cambrian Patrol silver adds a military sporting honour to that list.

Recognition in London

After the exercise, the High Commissioner hosted the medal-winning team at the Pakistan High Commission in London. The visit gave the soldiers a chance to share their experience of the exercise with mission staff and to be recognised for their efforts. The High Commissioner discussed their experience with the team and congratulated them on the achievement.

For the Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol soldiers, moments like this matter. A patrol that has spent days in the Welsh hills, tested on everything from casualty drills to media handling, returns to a formal welcome that records the achievement for the country. It also gives the wider team a platform to pass on what they learned to the next group preparing for the event.

What Comes Next for the Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol Team

The Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol streak now sets its own standard. The next squad to travel to Wales will aim to match or better a silver, knowing that gold has been won before and that the standard required is clear: 75 percent overall, with no task below 65 percent. The 2026 team’s performance shows that the gap is small and the preparation is working.

For now, the silver medal stands as a fresh achievement in its own right. The Pakistan Army Cambrian Patrol team of eight soldiers from 59 Punjab Regiment went to Wales, took on 140 teams from 36 countries in one of the hardest patrolling tests in the world, and came home with a medal. It is a result built on fitness, fieldcraft, leadership and teamwork, and a proud addition to Pakistan’s growing record at Exercise Cambrian Patrol.
